Healthy Relationship

There are many different ways that social media and the entertainment industry perceive what a healthy relationship looks like. Can those things affect how we perceive healthy relationships in our lives?

Social media in the lives of college age students can cause pressure on their life to make sure that they fit in and look a certain way. The same thing happens when it comes to relationships. College students who post about their relationship and talk about things that are personal to their relationship. This can cause their peers to view this as a representation of what a healthy relationship looks like. This can cause peer pressure on the viewers' relationship because they believe that it is normal and healthy to do those things.

Social media has a wide variety of posts from couples and relationship insight and that can cause the viewers to believe that those are what healthy relationships are. Seeing things from creators on the apps what their relationship looks like. For example, someone posts about their boyfriend being protective and helps them decide what they wear. Viewers will believe that is a sign of love and support for their significant other. That’s not the case. That kind of thing is an unhealthy relationship red flag because they are controlling what you’re wearing.

Social media can affect your relationship in a positive and a negative way depending on what is being presented to you when it comes to relationships. Social media can depict unrealistic expectations when it comes to romantic relationships. This can cause people to become picky and their partner to change because of what they think a relationship is supposed to look like. This can cause problems within your relationship because you’re asking your partner to change because you want to fit in on the norms when it comes to social media.

Within a relationship you should never expect your partner to change because of the things that are on the internet. Every relationship is different and it’s because of the people that are in the relationship. There are no two relationships that are exactly the same. Relationships are meant to be unique and healthy depending on what you’re wanting in your relationship. Your relationship doesn’t have to fit in with what the world of social media thinks it should. Social media relationships only show the good parts you don’t see what is behind the scenes when it comes to the relationship.
